John Green
John Green, a New York Times best selling author, is known for his famous books. Green was born in Indianapolis, and soon moved to Orlando Florida. He was bullied as a teenager, which he speaks out against today. When Green moved to Chicago, he worked for a book review journal as a publishing assistant. He later moved to Indianapolis, where The Fault In Our Stars takes place.
Summary
Sixteen year old Hazel Lancaster was diagnosed with stage four Thyroid cancer with metastasis forming in her lungs when she was only thirteen years old. Buying her a few more years, she takes a drug called Phalanxifor. Her mother diagnoses Hazel with depression and forces her to attend a support group for other cancer patients. There she meets her friend Issac who has cancer in his eye that eventually causes him to go blind. One day, Issac brings his friend Augustus, a former osteosarcoma patient, who is in remission, to support group. Augustus has a prosthetic leg due to his cancer. Hazel catches Augustus's eye and they hangout that night. Augustus and Hazel start to hangout a lot, and exchange their favorite books. They fall for each other fast, but Hazel know that it won't workout. Hazel describes herself as a "grenade", that she doesn't have much time left. She tries to distance herself from Augustus, but nothing seems to work. In Hazel's favorite book, the ending is abrupt, and she is dying to know what happens to the other characters. After years of writing the author, there has never been a reply. Augustus's uses his wish from the Make a Wish Foundation, to take Hazel to Amsterdam to meet with the Author. Finally, they arrive in Amsterdam and proceed to the author, Peter Van Houten's house. He turns out to be an angry drunk who will not tell what happens to the characters as he promises. Angry and upset, Hazel, Augustus, and Houten's former assistant make their way to the Anne Frank Museum, where the couple share their first kiss. That night, Hazel tells Augustus that she loves him for the first time. The next morning, August informs Hazel that his cancer has come back in many places in his body and there is no way to survive it.
When they arrive back in Indianapolis, Augustus's health is worsening. Isaac and Hazel share their eulogies with Augustus. Eight days after, Augustus passes away. At the funeral, Hazel is surprised to see Peter Van Houten has attended. There, he tries to explain everything but Hazel is furious. Days later, Houten shows up again and Hazel gives him a chance to talk. Isaac share with Hazel that Augustus was writing something for her. After days of search she finds the letter. The letter is to the author, Peter Van Houten. All along, August was writing a eulogy for Hazel.
